The Redding and The Shasta County area is one of the most diverse and beautiful areas in California. It is surrounded by mountains and has the magnificent Sacramento River slicing through it. Outdoor recreation and beauty define the area. Despite recent growth it still maintains that “small hometown” feel. Relative to the rest of California, land is plentiful and priced reasonably.

Employment

Shasta County has 178,000 people; 45% of these are in the workforce; another 6% are looking. Highly educated and skilled workers are attracted to the area's superior quality of life. Creation of job’s is expected to be fastest in the area of services, retail trade, construction and mining followed by wholesale trade, government, transportation and public utilities. Increases in manufacturing will be significant as established firms expand and new manufacturers move into the area. Median price of a house sold in the City of Redding in 2005 was $ 270,500.  Executive type homes range up to $ 1.5 million+. Average price for a home in Shasta County Feb 2006: $ 304,348 (California: $ 535,470). Average property tax 1.07%

Recreation

The Shasta county area is an outdoor mecca. The area offers excellent camping, hiking, boating, fishing, hunting and biking opportunities. Lassen National Park is an hour’s drive from Redding and Whiskeytown NRA is just a short drive away. Just to the north is beautiful Lake Shasta, Castle Crags State Park and Mt Shasta.
